PERFORMANCE AND INSTRUMENTAL NEWS

TRI-UMPH

The original plans Tri-UMPH for the combined Catholic Colleges was sadly cancelled due to Covid, but Saint Ignatius decided to have their own mini Tri-UMPH which was a huge success.

On Friday, September 9th music students performed during recess and lunchtime to staff and students. The basketball court area came alive as the year 9, 10, 11 and 12 bands entertained the appreciative crowd.

CLARINET MEGA DAY

On the last Sunday of the school holidays, clarinet students, Emily O’Kane and Fin Hanley, attended the Clarinet Mega Day at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University with their teacher Mrs. Janice Wilding and Mr Michael Wilding.

The day consisted of all participants playing in a large clarinet choir of more than 50 players, masterclasses, question forum and performances. It was hosted by Associate Professor in Music (Performance-Clarinet) David Griffiths. He was joined by Eloise Fischer (Tasmanian Symphony), Phillip Arkinstall (Melbourne Symphony), Paul Champion (Orchestra Victoria) and Jose Franch-Ballaster (University of British Columbia, Vancouver). It was a long day but a fantastic opportunity to hear from leading clarinet experts and other student performers at both a school and university level.

Emily was fortunate to play in the masterclass with David and received some positive feedback for her upcoming VCE performance exam.

NEW BAND ROOM

The Music Department has now acquired the old staffroom portable and now have this setup as a permanent band room. All concert band and stage band rehearsals will now take place in this space as well as the Year 7 music classes. We are fortunate to have our own space and more time can be spent rehearsing rather than moving chairs and setting up the room.

We wish Eleanor all the best in her future studies and teaching.
